Eichelberger Participates in VIP Dairy Showmanship Contest
at Pennsylvania Farm Show

Harrisburg, PA – January 12, 2012 – On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, Senator John H. Eichelberger, Jr. participated in the VIP Dairy Showmanship Contest at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. Eleven legislators competed for the honor of VIP Master Showman. Each legislator was partnered with an exhibitor from their district who provided the calf or cow the legislator showed. Senator Eichelberger showed a ten-month old Brown Swiss named Sandra from Manor Meadow Farm in Everett owned by the Stanton family. This is the third year that he has partnered with the Stanton family to handle one of their animals.

Eichelberger said “Dairy farming is a major component of Pennsylvania’s and our region’s agriculture industry. It is critical to Pennsylvania’s future. This event provides a fun, interactive way to learn more about the dairy industry, discuss the challenges farmers face and the methods they are using to overcome those challenges.”

The show was covered live by Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) and will be rebroadcasted over the coming weeks.

Corporal Harry Raymond Harr Memorial Bridge Dedication

Bridge Named After Local Congressional Medal of Honor Winner

Hollidaysburg, PA – Thursday, November 3, 2011 – A group of state and local officials and friends gathered to dedicate the I-99 bridge located at mile marker 19 in the southern end of Freedom Township in honor of Corporal Harry Raymond Harr. Corporal Harr, United States Army, was an East Freedom native. He was killed in action at age 24 on June 5, 1945, in Mindanao, Pacific, during World War II. He smothered a Japanese hand grenade with his body and saved the lives of four of his fellow soldiers. Corporal Harr was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his brave and heroic actions.

Act 70 of July 7, 2011 designates this bridge the Corporal Harry Raymond Harr Memorial Bridge. “This designation will help local emergency service providers better respond to accidents in the area.” said Senator Eichelberger. “It is fitting that this bridge is named after a local war hero.”

The dedication ceremony honored Corporal Harr, recognized the service of all veterans, and unveiled the new signs for the bridge.
