We had a long caucus for a Wednesday and we, again, voted on a number of bills. This is a more aggressive calendar than I remember this early in the year. There is progress on the Marcellus Shale bills. Nothing immediate, maybe February. I got back in time tonight to get to the Act 47 (distressed municipality) meeting in Altoona. The city brought in a man from DCED to review the program and answer questions. It was a packed house with city employees, union leaders and the general public. The informational session was very thorough and the venue was transparent. The decision to enter the program is difficult for any municipality. Tonight’s discussion provided some additional information to the members of council and allowed the public to hear the specifics of the program. The goal that was stressed tonight was long term benefit. There is not much good fiscal news expected in the near future.
