How irresponsible can the state government be?
July 21st, 2010The Governor testified at the Senate Transportation Committee today in Harrisburg. His message was a quick fix of higher gas taxes and registration fees. More despicable was his plan to tour the state and garner votes for his plan by purchasing lawmakers with transportation projects in their districts. I hear regularly from people who are sick of the legislative process, the corruption, the lack of reform, well, here’s the ultimate example of what’s wrong with Harrisburg. His plan is not only bad policy, it is not realistic. Any legislator that is promised a project may never see it because this Governor will soon be out of office and not able to make good on his commitments. Keep in mind that this method is also an extremely expensive way to do business. By adding projects to the transportation funding deficit, the deficit grows, maybe even doubles. How irresponsible can the state government be? I guess we’ll find out after the Governor’s tour.
