Day 98 without a real budget. All of the budget bills passed through the Senate today and were sent to the House for their action. The bills had more no votes than any budgets since I got here. There were 6 votes against the main spending bill this year, up from one last year (mine). What the House will do is still up for debate. They did away with the Conference Committee today, which is a step in the right direction. This committee was at best not effective, at worst, a political sham. The House D’s are trying to stall or, perhaps derail this third deal. Their attempts are lame at this point. They called $12 million in expenditures, “WAMS” and then shifted $11 million to House legislative accounts. The expenditures were not WAMS and the shift to giving it to themselves is simply incredible. The press so far has seen through this. I hope that it is the end of these shenanigans. All eyes will be on the House tomorrow, they can’t stall forever.
