Day 32 without a budget. Not much news on the budget today. The talks tomorrow will be in private, so we probably won’t see any progress until Monday, that’s when the House is scheduled to be back. I went several places today and heard the same message, “don’t give in, we can’t afford any more taxes”. It was good to get out to see a variety of people that aren’t tied to any of the special interests that I usually hear from. These are people who tell me that they understand that some programs will be cut, but that they have made cuts themselves at work or at home. They have told me that no one is talking about their problems on the evening news, they are doing what they need to and just sucking it up. If anybody thinks that the average guy doesn’t understand what really is going on, they’re wrong.
