Day 34 without a budget. The House was in session today and didn’t do anything new. A story broke yesterday that the Republicans had brokered a deal with “Blue Dog” Democrats and had an amendment to Senate Bill 850 that would keep spending at $27.5 billion. Well, as often happens with these announcements, the votes were not there and the Democrats pushed through their agenda. The House leadership and the Governor are still talking about raising taxes and spending money like it grows on trees. The people are with the Senate Republicans, the votes are not in any caucus for a tax increase, but a few people in the House leadership are controlling their members and keeping this entire mess from being settled. This doesn’t say much for the integrity of the leadership, but it says a lot less about the integrity of the House rank and file. They get paid to make votes and do the right thing, it’s time they step up and do it.
