Eichelberger stands with state employees…literally
July 24th, 2009Senator Eichelberger participates in rally protesting “payless paydays”
Hollidaysburg, PA – Friday, July 24, 2009, State Senator John H. Eichelberger, Jr. joined about twenty state employees that originally came to protest his office over the fact that the current budget impasse could result in them not getting paid.
“They came to make their voices heard, and I hear them,” Senator Eichelberger explained. “I’ve said all along that the Governor should be paying state employees. I’ve shared a legal opinion prepared by attorneys in our caucus that says that they should be paid. I don’t know how much more clear I can be, so I decided to join them in protesting the Governor’s decision.”
Senator Eichelberger held a sign that said, “Stop Payless Paydays” and stood along Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg just in front of his office, joining with the state employees who face not being paid in trying to rally support from passersby.
“Hey, I stopped getting paid on June 30th, so I’m in the same boat that they are in,” said Eichelberger. “It just made sense to join in.”
