With the rain we had this morning I didn’t think that the Golden Games in Hollidaysburg would continue, but they did. I have helped officiate the track and field events for a number of years and I was there this morning with a somewhat reduced field of senior athletes. I left there to attend and speak at the Juneteenth Underground Railroad Celebration in Bedford. I must admit that I was not very familiar with this holiday. Juneteenth officially was yesterday and commemorates the day that Union troops rode into Texas and told Texans that there was an Executive Order from the President abolishing slavery. The order was done two and one half years prior to that, but for reasons not known, the people of Texas never received word and continued to own slaves. This act on June 19, 1865 ended slavery in the United States. Today was inspiring.
