I think that guy is right
May 8th, 2009I had another early start this morning, Altoona Blair County Development Corp. had its annual breakfast at 7:30 in Altoona. The guest speaker was an economist from PNC Bank in Pittsburgh. He went through a lot of information about the national economy and predicted that the current recession should be over by the end of summer or early fall. He based his prediction on historical data post WW II. He said that every economic downtown in this era has bottomed out then steadily gotten better little by little. This economy seems to have bottomed out a couple of months ago and things have gotten a little better each month since (including the jobs number released this morning during his speech). I did some constituent work today and went to the grand opening of the Huntingdon County State Health Center. The center moved from old quarters in the Borough of Huntingdon to new space out by the State Police Barracks. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. The big excitement for the day, however, was just before my trip to Huntingdon when I went home, just for a minute, to let the dogs out. I had Lillie out back and the boys went around to the front of the house. When I brought Lillie back to the garage and called for Rascal and Keeno, I discovered that they were gone. They decided to take a little run through the neighborhood on their own. After searching for 20 minutes, I called Charlotte and she rushed home to help. After almost an hour, a lady flagged me down and asked if I was looking for two dogs, when I said yes, she told me that they were by an assisted living facility about a half mile from the house. A lady at the home had the dogs in hand when Charlotte and I got there. We were glad to see them and they jumped right into Charlotte’s Jeep. Someone told me later that if I think that I have trouble with the state’s budget, if I would have lost those dogs, I would have a lot more trouble at home with Charlotte. I think that guy is right.
