We listen and try to help

December 2nd, 2008

I went to a the Altoona chapter of SCORE this morning to honor the outgoing president, Peter Hart. What an accomplished group of business and professional people, I was very impressed. I had a morning of appointments and got a few things done in the office. Some of the problems you hear from constituents make you angry, angry that people have gone through what they did. I wish that I could wave a magic wand and fix their situation but it’s not that simple. We often have people talk to us about things that are in the judicial system, usually after they have a ruling from a court that they don’t agree with. We have no authority to do anything with the court system, obviously. Occasionally there is an opportunity to find a way to help in these matters but not often. The best scenarios are those that involve a state agency; we can at least get answers for people with these problems. Sometimes they like the answers and sometimes they don’t. But regardless of the circumstances, we listen and try to help. Sometimes, that’s the best anyone can do.
