Senator Eichelberger Appointed Chairman of Local Government

Says He is Honored to Assume New Responsibilities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hollidaysburg, PA – Friday, December 5, 2008, Senator John H. Eichelberger, Jr. announced today that he has been appointed as Chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for the upcoming 2009-2010 Legislative Session which begins on January 6, 2009. The appointment was made yesterday by President Pro Tempore and Lieutenant Governor Joseph Scarnati (R-25).

Eichelberger said that “our system of government in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is somewhat unique and brings difficult challenges that need appropriate attention. As a former County Commissioner, I understand the difficulties and constraints facing local officials and will try my best to help those officials and the people we collectively serve.”

The Senate Local Government Committee is a standing committee that handles legislation pertaining to local government. The chairman is responsible for setting the agenda which includes scheduling meetings and hearings on issues the chairman would like addressed.
