The Turnpike Commission’s Great Idea…

Article posted on September 11, 2008

I hope that everyone took at least a moment today to remember the horrific events of Sept. 11th, 2001. I just returned from a remembrance service at a church in Altoona, it was a special service where there was a true sense of patriotism and community. I also did Pastor Gary Dull’s Christian radio program this afternoon where we discussed where we were and what we did on that day seven years ago. Aside from a number of other things I did during this busy day, I was glad to hear the news that the Federal Highway Administration turned down the Turnpike Commission and Penn Dot’s joint request to toll Interstate 80. This decision guts Act 44, the current transportation funding bill. A bill that should have never been signed into law. A bill that was the brainchild of the Turnpike Commission and one that was destined to fail from the outset. It will be interesting to see what happens next and how the Turnpike tries to spin things. The Turnpike is deep in debt and there is no plan B, what a mess. Did I mention that this was their idea?
