Things are moving along with the budget?

Article posted on July 3, 2008

We’re still in session tonight and I am not sure how late we will go. The House is behind on getting their bills over to the Senate so we will be here tomorrow for most of the day and maybe well beyond, we just don’t know yet. Rumors were really flying this morning about legal papers being served on House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese and others as a result of the Bonus-Gate investigation, so far, it didn’t happen. We also learned today that whatever day we get done with the budget will be Senator Vince Fumo’s last day at a Senate Session. His trial starts in September and he is not expected to come back. I understand that he will be making some remarks on the floor before he leaves. Things are moving along with the budget process but not without problems. The biggest issue I have at present is the fact that the members have not seen most of the budget language yet. It is pretty hard to justify voting on something that you haven’t seen or seen long enough to work through. These budgets are very complicated and a quick look is not good enough as far as I am concerned. We all have a pretty good knowledge of various components of the budget and are learning more about things as we work through the bills before us, but we need to have a line by line budget in our hands to see the real details and we don’t. I hope that changes soon.
