My faith is still with the average folks
July 9th, 2008Now that the budget process, such as it is, is over, people are weighing in on different issues that have caught their attention. Some people stop in or call and want me to know their opinion on an issue. Some people are more diplomatic than others and some are more informed. Usually after I talk to them about why I did or didn’t support something, they are satisfied that at least I listened. I am surprised often that bright, educated people react the way they do to partial or inaccurate information concerning a topic they care about. I learned years ago to ask people about where they got their information from. Believe it or not, some people, who have their own agenda on any given topic, will say things that are not true. My faith is still with the average folks who look at all of the information, listen to what I have to say, then make up their own minds. There are far more responsible citizens than irresponsible ones.

Sorry, you are wrong. If you ask the average person about the state budget process, you’ll get a blank look. Ask about jacking up tolls to spend on transit, they’ll say “can they do that’? No, most people ane NOT responsible citizens because they don’t inform themselves about what is going on. And of course,
clever politicians take advantage of this and use rhetoric designed to add to the confusion.
