Spending time in the district

Article posted on December 6, 2007

I didn’t have a full schedule today so I got caught up on a number of things and spent a little time with staff in the Hollidaysburg office.  I did the Christian radio show I do about every two weeks with Pastor Gary Dull.  Gary and I have been friends for years and I enjoy doing the show with him.  Today we talked about the cost of living increase for state officials.  I ended the day at the Huntingdon County Chamber Christmas party.  I saw a lot of business people there and discussed a number of issues facing Huntingdon County.  Each county in this district is unique in many ways.  I doubt if people from say the south east or Pittsburgh areas would understand the differences between two neighboring, rural counties in this part of the state.  The economies, incomes, transportation issues, housing stock, educational opportunities and many other things are vastly different.  This is why I spend so much of my time visiting the people of this district and getting to better understand them.  How can I represent their interests unless I know what their interests really are.
