Huntingdon Open House

Article posted on October 10, 2007

This morning I met with a sociology class from Juniata College at our Huntingdon County office.  The group of 9 seniors were bright and inquisitive.  I enjoyed my time with them.  Tonight, we had our open house and ribbon cutting for the Huntingdon County office.  We had a diverse crowd from all across the county; many people who I had not met before.  The building looks great after all of the renovations and the food tonight was out of this world.  Pam Prosser from my staff made all of the food and did an excellent job with the entire event.  The comments I heard over and over tonight from numerous people were about the PHEAA situation.  I think that a full hearing is in order that explores not only PHEAA’s financial performance but how Pennsylvania’s students compare to other states in regard to service and usage.  Also, I’ve heard a lot about their advertising practices; some people wonder why they advertise at all.  I had one complaint about the agency’s internal privacy policy and some people have made appointments with me to discuss other issues about PHEAA.  We should be all over this next week, I hope we are.
